I visited the Asia Society's exhibition: Traces of the Calligrapher: Islamic Calligraphy in Practice, c. 1600–1900 and Writing the Word of God: Calligraphy and the Qur'an. Because I was raised in a household influenced by Sufi teachings it's surreal to recognize how much I didn't even consider the role and practice of calligraphy as an expression of faith.
